In a panel session last week, Matt Heinz asked me, “Would you recommend a career in marketing to your kids?”
I realized that I didn’t answer the question directly because they gave us cocktails during this Future of the CMO session at Pavilion’s CMO Summit in Atlanta. I got a little distracted. 😉 So I’ll answer it now.
I still believe in marketing and I would not discourage my kids if they have passion for it. 60% of today’s jobs did not exist in 1940 (https://lnkd.in/gSNPwyRR). There was no social media manager or digital marketer in 1940. So marketing as we know it today will most likely be different moving forward.
I believe that we’ll be moving from using AI as tools, to guiding AI as teammates, to orchestrating AI systems, or some combo. If my kids have passion for working with AI to build trust with humans and the AI tools that serve them, then go for it!
This human-AI teamwork will be key in driving business growth moving forward.
Would you recommend a career in marketing to your kids? Would love to hear your thoughts.
