Teach Kids AI: Just Type & Play Games!

Liza Adams · March 9, 2025 ·

Figured out how to get my kids to learn more about AI: Games!

Like many parents, I worry about preparing my kids for a future with AI and showing them how to use it responsibly.

But teens don’t want mom as their tech teacher, and they’ve got a million other things competing for their attention.

Our family loves games. My hubby and 13-year-old are avid gamers, and my high school senior is super competitive (hates losing at anything ๐Ÿ˜‚).

So, I leaned into games by building simple AI games together.

Yesterday, we played some games we built using AI with this ridiculously simple prompt:

“Please create an interactive [name of game]. Make it visually appealing and do your best to make it look like the real game.”

That’s it! No coding. No tech skills. Just type and play. We created:

  • โ–บ Connect 4 โ€“ worked first try with just the basic prompt!

  • โ–บ Black Jack โ€“ added “please make it like a table in Vegas” (hubby’s favorite!)

  • โ–บ Pictionary โ€“ the kids’ favorite! We were drawing with our mouse in minutes. See video clip below.

  • โ–บ Wheel of Fortune โ€“ took a few tries to get the wheel we liked

  • โ–บ Battleship โ€“ had to teach AI some strategy because it kept losing making random moves!

We’re on a learning journey, but the kids are now curious about how these games work. They’re seeing how easy it is to build and personalize games like changing rules, format, colors, interactions, etc.

It’s just a small step toward AI literacy, but it’s already working better than my lectures ever did! Even basic familiarity with AI will help them.

When we understand AI, we can teach our kids AI.

Why not give it a shot with your kids? Start by playing the games. The links to the games are in the comments, https://lnkd.in/gjFCQyKX. They’re free to play, no subscription needed!

I’d love to hear your experiences too! If you try creating any AI games, please share your ideas or favorite games below. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Games built with AI (Claude Sonnet 3.7). Try them and let me know what you think! These work better on desktop (vs mobile):

  1. Pictionary

  2. Black Jack

  3. Battleship

  4. Wheel of Fortune

  5. Connect 4
